Who is George L. Bridge? Bridge School was founded and incorporated in August, 1994 by Kathy Sherman and Dick Weeks. They named the school in honor of Dick's grandfather, George Leighton Bridge, a man who believed in strong family ties, had unwavering faith in young people, possessed amazing tenacity and always encouraged his children and grandchildren to be physically active and to develop strong community affiliations. These, along with strong academic standards, were the very characteristics the founders prized and hoped to foster in their students. These years later, George L. Bridge School is going strong, upholding the values and ideals of Grandpa Bridge while educating many fine young people of Boulder and surrounding communities.

In this photo George Leighton Bridge is shown riding his beloved workhorse, Tom, accompanied by Bell the shepherd, back in the 1940s in Walpole, New Hampshire. A longtime resident of Walpole, he worked his land and, along with his wife Dorothy, reared six children. According to Dick's aunt Helen, "Tom plowed many gardens and pulled the wagon. Once something startled him and he went tearing through the partially opened barn door with the wagon behind him. Luckily he didn't do much harm to himself or the wagon!" |
