The Making of the Piņatas

The piņatas at WinterFiesta were hand crafted by Bridge art students. They started with balloons, to which they deftly applied appendages of cardboard, paper and tape.

Secret ingredients were mixed with magic incantations, creating a glutinous mixture, into which strips of newspaper were schlooped and lovingly applied to the appendaged balloons.

A layer (or two or three) of colourful paint was adroitly applied to the sculptures.

A whole is surgically sliced in the tops and a surprise package of gift certificates from local merchants is inserted into each piņata.

A hook is attached to the tops of the piņati, and they are hung from the ceiling to provide a fiestive atmosphere here tonight.

Tradition notwithstanding, these piņati will not be batted to death. They were placed in the guardianship of the highest bidders, who will enjoy the treats within.
