". . . the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time." --T.S. Eliot

Student Life Education at Bridge School is an expedition in learning. We help students gain the skills and confidence to venture beyond the safety of the classroom. We begin each year with a school-wide Orientation trip. Each class travels to an outdoor retreat setting to challenge themselves in a variety of community-building activities. During Orientation, bonds are formed (and renewed) which lay the foundation for a successful school year. Beyond the traditional academics, Bridge School students engage themselves in a variety of activities, including photography, basketball, soccer, volleyball, ceramics, cooking, music, and drama. Students also choose weekly club activities which include an outdoor club, ultimate frisbee, chess, meditation, telescope building, and music and improvisation. Experiential education at Bridge culminates in the spring with our traditional May Term trips and projects. These explorations take students far afield or focus their energies in a specific area close to home. May Term offerings vary from year to year. Past experiences have included Spanish language immersion and adventuring in Costa Rica, mountain biking in Moab, rock climbing in the Boulder area, Shakespeare studies in England, sea kayaking in the Pacific Northwest, astronomy in Chaco Canyon, guitar-making with a master luthier from Tuscany, and cultural studies trips to China and Ireland. In the spring of 2007, a group of Bridge School students participated in the India Project, a two week trip for students interested in directly interacting with the culture and people of Northern India. Through all their experiences at Bridge, students develop teamwork and good sportsmanship. Creativity is nurtured and skills learned are practiced beyond our campus walls. Students emerge from Bridge School as responsible and contributing members of the community at large. |
